Known faults on the 2025 Vauxhall Crossland

Reported by owners, mechanics and buying guides for this model and age. Check which engine the car has, as some apply to one engine only.

  • Rear axle bolt recall (March 2018 builds)

    Cars built March 2018

539 cars built in March 2018 were recalled because the bolts holding the rear axle on could snap.

At the viewing: Use the VIN to confirm with a Vauxhall dealer or the DVSA recall checker that the recall has been done.

  • Missing rear impact part (early cars)

Cars built up to May 2017

219 cars built up to May 2017 left the factory without a rear impact limiter, so they would protect occupants less well in a rear crash.

At the viewing: Check the build date. If it's May 2017 or earlier, confirm the recall has been done.

  • Piston recall (late-2017 builds)

    Cars built Oct-Dec 2017

52 cars built between October and December 2017 were recalled for faulty pistons. The source doesn't say which engine was affected.

At the viewing: Confirm the recall status with a dealer, and listen for knocking or a rough idle on a cold start.

  • Timing belt that runs in oil (PureTech petrol)

    1.0 and 1.2 PureTech petrol

The 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech petrol engines use a timing belt that runs in the engine oil (a “wet belt”). It can break down early and shed rubber that blocks the oil supply, which can wreck the engine. Some also burn too much oil. Stellantis now covers earlier engines for belt and oil-burning problems for up to 10 years or 112,000 miles, as long as the car has been serviced on schedule.

At the viewing: Ask for a full service history showing the right oil, and when the belt was last checked or changed. Check the oil level on the dipstick, and that no oil-pressure or engine warning light stays on.

  • Lambda sensor recall and engine warning light

    Cars built Jun 2018 - Mar 2019

6,282 cars built between June 2018 and March 2019 got faulty oxygen (lambda) sensors, which made emissions too high. Haynes also names a failing oxygen sensor as a common cause of the engine warning light coming on.

At the viewing: Make sure the engine warning light comes on with the ignition and then goes out once the engine starts. Confirm the recall has been done.

  • Handbrake and door electrics

    All engines

Haynes says the parking brake can stop working because the release button in the lever fails, and that's an awkward fix. Faulty connector pins in the door plugs can also stop the locks, windows and mirrors from working.

At the viewing: Test that the handbrake holds and releases. Work every window, lock and mirror from each switch.

Questions to ask the seller before buying a 2025 Vauxhall Crossland

Ask before you travel to see it. A seller who knows the car will have answers, and receipts.

  1. Has the rear axle bolt recall been done?
  2. Has the rear impact limiter recall been carried out?
  3. Has the piston recall been completed?
  4. When was the timing belt last checked or changed, and has it had the right oil at every service? Is the car still within Stellantis’ extended PureTech cover?
  5. Can I see the service history and receipts for any big jobs?

What to check on a 2025 car

  • Warranty left

Ask for the date it was first registered and check how much of the maker’s warranty is left, and that it transfers to you. Electric and hybrid batteries usually have a longer, separate warranty.

  • Servicing

Servicing on time with the maker’s schedule keeps the warranty valid. Ask for the service book or the dealer’s digital record.

  • Finance

Nearly new cars are often still on finance. A history check shows outstanding finance, and whether it has been written off or stolen.

  • Recalls

Ask whether any recall work has been done, and check the reg on GOV.UK’s free recall checker.

  • Logbook (V5C)

The name and address should match the seller, and the VIN on the V5C should match the car.
