2024 Peugeot 2008: known problems and what to check
Cars registered in 2024 haven’t had their first MOT yet (it’s due at 3 years old), so there are no MOT results to show. Here’s what we do know about the 2024 Peugeot 2008, and what to check before you buy one.
Known faults on the 2024 Peugeot 2008
Reported by owners, mechanics and buying guides for this model and age. Check which engine the car has, as some apply to one engine only.

Air-con fault recall can leave the car undriveable
About 29,537 cars from model years 2019 to 2022 were recalled for an air-conditioning fault that could leave the car impossible to drive.
At the viewing: Ask a Peugeot dealer or use Peugeot's online recall checker to confirm the work is done.

- 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech petrol
Timing belt that runs in oil (PureTech petrol)
The 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech petrol engines use a timing belt that runs in the engine oil (a “wet belt”). It can break down early and shed rubber that blocks the oil supply, which can wreck the engine. Some also burn too much oil. Stellantis now covers earlier engines for belt and oil-burning problems for up to 10 years or 112,000 miles, as long as the car has been serviced on schedule.
At the viewing: Ask for a full service history showing the right oil, and when the belt was last checked or changed. Check the oil level on the dipstick, and that no oil-pressure or engine warning light stays on.

- Diesel, built Oct 2019-Sep 2020
AdBlue injector recall on diesels
A recall covered 773 diesel 2008s built from October 2019 to the end of September 2020. The AdBlue injector could block and push emissions over the limit. A free software update fixes it.
At the viewing: For diesels built in that window, confirm with a Peugeot dealer or the recall checker that the update was done.

Diesel warning lights and AdBlue faults
Diesel owners report repeated warning lights, engine noise, sensor and electrical faults, including an AdBlue fault that kept coming back. Petrol owners report far fewer problems.
At the viewing: Check that no warning lights stay on after starting, and look for repeat dealer visits in the history.

Glitchy infotainment and sat-nav
The most common owner complaint is a buggy touchscreen, especially the navigation.
At the viewing: Use the touchscreen, sat-nav and phone connection during the viewing to make sure they respond properly.

- Petrol and diesel engines
Cambelt due at 12 years or 125,000 miles
Petrol and diesel engines need a cambelt change every 12 years or 125,000 miles, about £499 for petrol and £619 for diesel.
At the viewing: On high-mileage cars, look for the cambelt change in the service history or budget for it.

Questions to ask the seller before buying a 2024 Peugeot 2008
Ask before you travel to see it. A seller who knows the car will have answers, and receipts.
- Has the air-conditioning recall been carried out by a Peugeot dealer?
- When was the timing belt last checked or changed, and has it had the right oil at every service? Is the car still within Stellantis’ extended PureTech cover?
- Can I see the service history and receipts for any big jobs?
What to check on a 2024 car
- Warranty left
Ask for the date it was first registered and check how much of the maker’s warranty is left, and that it transfers to you. Electric and hybrid batteries usually have a longer, separate warranty.
- Servicing
Servicing on time with the maker’s schedule keeps the warranty valid. Ask for the service book or the dealer’s digital record.
- Finance
Nearly new cars are often still on finance. A history check shows outstanding finance, and whether it has been written off or stolen.
- Recalls
Ask whether any recall work has been done, and check the reg on GOV.UK’s free recall checker.
- Logbook (V5C)
The name and address should match the seller, and the VIN on the V5C should match the car.
